I am a Restoration Ecologist and Team Leader for Ecosystems Research in the Department of Energy Office of Science/Pacific Northwest National Laboratory’s Coastal Sciences Division, develops and applies transdisciplinary research approaches for terrestrial-aquatic ecosystems. Located at PNNL’s Marine Sciences Laboratory in Sequim, Washington since 2000, my research focuses on riverine and coastal ecosystems, particularly forests and wetlands (e.g., Sitka spruce tidal freshwater, emergent marshes, & submerged aquatic vegetation).

My studies emphasize multi-scale phenomena, frequently watershed or landscape-scale connectivity with riparian and littoral zones, and include ecology, geomorphology, ecohydrology, ecological engineering/ restoration, critical thinking, cultural studies, and sustainability science.
